RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Despite substantial progress in reducing hepatitis B prevalence in the general population, the indigenous population in Malaysia continues to face a significant burden of infection, with high seroprevalence rates. It is hypothesised that transmission patterns differ between the indigenous and non-indigenous populations. This study aimed to compare key risk factors for hepatitis B transmission in indigenous and non-indigenous cases. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a comparative crosssectional study using secondary data from the eNotifikasi system and hepatitis B case investigation forms between 2018 and 2022 from four district health offices in Pahang, Malaysia. Demographic data, hepatitis B vaccination status and risk factors were assessed. Data analysis employed were independent chi-squared tests, t-tests and binary logistic regression. RESULTS: The study included 285 cases (141 indigenous and 145 non-indigenous). Among the indigenous cases, 72.3% were unvaccinated and 59.6% reported a history of infected mother, followed by percutaneous exposure, multiple sexual partners, and sharing syringe. The odds for those with a history of an infected mother being indigenous group is 2.5 times (95% CI: 1.4-4.4) compared to those with a history of an infected mother being non-indigenous group. CONCLUSION: Significant difference exists in hepatitis B risk factors between indigenous and non-indigenous populations. The main risk factor for indigenous community is history of infected mother. Thus, the necessity of incorporating hepatitis B screening into the current practice of antenatal HIV screening, specifically targeting the indigenous community, should be given consideration.

RESUMO

In this paper, we introduce a nanocomposite as a humidity-sensitive sound absorber. The nanocomposites were prepared using hydrogel polymer (HP) as a matrix and graphene oxide (GO) as a filler. Results show that the surface energy of the nanocomposite is 58.4 mJ m-2, and GO sheets increase the nanocomposite porosity from 2.6716 cm2 g-1 (for HP) up to 3.246 cm2 g-1. In addition, the diameter of nanocomposite pores is 8.5202 nm lower than that of HP (10.274 nm). To study the effect of humidity on the sound absorption, we exposed them to moisture for 30 and 60 min and then measured sound absorption. Results show an absorption peak for the HP at 1022 Hz with an attenuation value of 30%, while the nanocomposite shows two main peaks around 1898 and 3300 Hz. In addition, results show that sound absorption peaks shift to higher frequencies according to humidification time.

RESUMO

We have studied the mechanical properties of a few-layer graphene cantilever (FLGC) using atomic force microscopy (AFM). The mechanical properties of the suspended FLGC over an open hole have been derived from the AFM data. Force displacement curves using the Derjaguin-Müller-Toporov (DMT) and the massless cantilever beam models yield a Young modulus of E(c) approximately 37, E(a) approximately 0.7 TPa and a Hamakar constant of approximately 3 x 10( - 18) J. The threshold force to shear the FLGC was determined from a breaking force and modeling. In addition, we studied a graphene nanoribbon (GNR), which is a system similar to the FLGC; using density functional theory (DFT). The in-plane Young's modulus for the GNRs were calculated from the DFT outcomes approximately 0.82 TPa and the results were compared with the experiment. We found that the Young's modulus and the threshold shearing force are dependent on the direction of applied force and the values are different for zigzag edge and armchair edge GNRs.
